Between a Rock and a Hard Place

This week I read the non-fiction book Between a Rock and a Hard Place written by Aron Ralston. This book is an autobiography about Aron Raltson and his experience in Blue John Canyon, Utah. He finds himself with his arm trapped between the canyon walls and a fallen boulder. He is forced to amputate his arm using only a dull multi tool in order to save his life. Although it seems like I just gave away the entire plot I did not and there is a lot that happens in the book. This book was really well written and you really got to know the main character. There was a lot of great details in this book. Overall I definitely recommend this book to anyone, no matter the type of books they normally like to read because it is a really influential book.

City of Bones

This week I read the fiction book City of Bones written by Cassandra Clare. This book is about a girl named Clary who after going to a club and witnesses a murder finds out about the world of shadow hunters and how she is connected to it all. This book is really good it is definitely not for everyone because of the type of book it is. It is obviously very fiction but for those of you who do like these types of books it has a really well developed plot and throughout the book you really get to know the characters. This is also in a series of five. Overall I would definitely recommend this book.

After monsoons wash away and destroy her families farm she must go and find work to support her family. Her stepfather takes her to become a prostitute. This book is really intense and the majority of the book has really mature content. It it really well written but it shouldn't be read by anyone not ready for this type of content.

Out of the Easy

I read Out of the Easy written by Ruta Sepetys. This book is fiction and takes place in the 1950s. Josie and her mother move to New Orleans and her mother becomes a prostitute. Josie goes to work at a book store where she deals with being a prostitutes daughter Suddenly there is a murder and Josie is caught in the middle of it, torn on the decisions that she is making. This book has a lot of warnings because of some of the things mentioned in the book. I thought that this book had a really interesting plot and it made me want to keep reading it all the way through the book. Overall I would definitely recommend this book, it is really well written.

13 Little Blue Envelopes

Over the past few weeks including the trip I read 13 Little Blue Envelopes written by Maureen Johnson. This book is about a girl named Virginia who is currently in the summer before she begins her senior year of high school. After receiving 13 letters from her deceased aunt she goes on a journey through Europe following a specific set of rules her aunt left for her. This book was okay. The plot was interesting and there was a something happening, but the quality of writing was not the best and there was certain moments where the book became boring and pretty hard to get through. Although the characters were really well developed as well as the setting. Overall there were ups and downs of this book I think that depending on the person and the style of writing they like someone could really enjoy this book.

She tries to leave her life of schemes and crime to go to a private boarding school. After her father is accused for stealing a priceless painting she must return back to her "normal" life and steal back the painting. This was a really good book and I definitely want to read the other books in the series. The character was really well developed and the quality of writing was pretty good. Overall I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fiction-action-mystery type books.

She joins a group of friends, but they cannot believe that she does not have a religion. Secretly she has a sepecial relationship where she talks to god. This book is really good, although it talks about religious topics, you do not have to know anything about them. It is overall really well written and the character is really developed throughout the book.

Into Thin Air

This week I read Into Thin Air written by Jon Krakauer. This book is about the 1996 Mt. Everest expedition that left eight climbers dead. While attempting to climb Everest a major storm hits and many things go wrong. This is a non fiction book written by someone who climbed Everest later that year. This book was amazingly written and it was a incredible way to learn about what had happened. The setting in this book is described really well for every scene. Overall it was a really good, yet also sad, book and even though it is non fiction I would definitely recommend for everyone to read this.

Unremebered

This week I read Unremembered written by Jessica Brody. This book is about a girl who is found among the wreckage of Freedom Airlines Flight 121, a plane that had crashed. She was the only surviver and has no memory of anything. While trying to regain her memory she runs into a boy who she apparently knew before the crash. She learns many things that changes everything she thought was true. I think that this book was really good, it took a while to pick up and get to the interesting parts but it still had an interesting plot. Overall I think that this is a book that people should try out and see if it would be good for the type of book they like to read, I liked it but it is a style of writing that is not for everything.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

This week I read The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. This book is about four girls who have been best friends since pretty much before birth. After finding a pair of jeans that somehow are able to fit all four of the girls, they decide to each take turn with the pants over their first summer of being separated from each other. They create rules to follow and a lot happens over the one summer. This book was really good and I know that it is a popular choice. It has a really interesting plot and throughout the whole book I found my self really interested in what was going to happen next. Overall I thought that this book was pretty good and I would recommend it.

Go Ask Alice

This week I read Go Ask Alice written by Anonymous. This book is about a girl who is who is under the constant pressure of her pretty much perfect parents. She is not the most social person and is pretty awkward, and she ends up getting an addiction. This book is really intense and has a lot of mature content to start off, it is an okay book it doesn't have the greatest writing but overall it is a really interesting point of view, but definitely very mature. The book that I will be reading this week is The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants written by Ann Brashares.

Blue Moon

This week I read Blue Moon written by Alyson Noel. This is the second book in the Immortals series after Evermore. This book is about a girl named Ever who after a near death experience she finds out she is immortal. The second book goes through how she learns to be an immortal and more of her dealing with the loss of her family. The overall series is pretty good some books are better than others, and I think that this one is kind of in between. Overall it has a good idea and the characters are really developed.

North of Beautiful

This week I read North of Beautiful written by Justina Chen Headley. This book is about a girl named Terra who on the outside is a gorgeous girl but she is hiding a lot. She has issues connecting with her mom and has to deal with her father consistently tormenting her and her mother. After a car accident she is brought face to face with a boy named Jacob and her life is completely changed. I thought that this book was good, but it was not super interesting all throughout. I found myself getting bored, but the characters were well developed and the idea of the story was good. I think that it would be interesting to do a non fiction book for book groups. Most of the books we do are fiction but having a book that was not would bring out a lot of interesting opinions and new things to talk about.

Eleanor and Park

This week I read Eleanor and Park. It is a non-fiction book written by Rainbow Rowell. The book starts off with the two main characters (Eleanor and Park) who are totally different from what seems to be everyone. They end up being forced to sit together on the bus and they begin a school year full of finding love with each other. Although this is a romance novel I think that everybody should read this even if a person is not always into romance books, because it is really well written and it has a great story that is really interesting. Overall this was a great book that I really enjoyed reading and I would definitely recommend.
